ABOUT FETONGI
Tongi is an excellent outside back. Light on his feet, a gifted left and right side step and equally a reliable distributor. Tongi has in 2009 shown to be an outstanding prospect. Strong and agile on his feet Tongi is a mistake free player. Tongi is a consistent line breaker and has wicked footwork. His left and right foot stepping ability is outstanding and whilst he playing for the NSW Cup Auckland Vulcans franchise we believe he has made a comfortable step up to Premier grade level.
Off the field, Tongi is a great trainer: physically fit, strong and very quick off the mark and over 40 and 100 metres. Tongi is mentally strong and has shown a lot of potential in the wing role. Tongi has a developing kicking game and is always looking to develop his all round game. At 20 years of age Tongi has played with the Auckland based Mt Albert Lions showing his versatility in the hooker and outside backs positions. He has genuine experience as a winger and can provide solid returns of kick chases. A noted try scorer in the 2009 Auckland rugby league competition bagging a number of tries throughout the season in which his club had won. Tongi has had experience playing alongside NZ Residents steward and now Lions club coach Steve Buckingham who has enormous experience as a leadership player and experience football half back.
Tongi is a Sports Education New Zealand student involved heavily in the rugby league course where he has continued to develop his all round fitness and skills with NZ Cook Islands coach, former Marist Richmond Brothers Bartercard cup captain, NZ Residents & Auckland Vulcans forward player, Henry Turua. Tongi has good initiative and is a live wire prospect for any team who is game enough to take him on board for 2011.
